Welcome to all of our new residents and members!!!  If this is your first time to receive my e-mail, the information below is about events and activities in Lakeway.  I typically send out e-mails about once a month.  Please review the e-mails  but due to some computer issues, we will send out 2 this month.  Please take a few minutes and review the whole e-mail as many items occur soon.  If you do not wish to receive the updates, either notify me by reply e-mail or follow the “unsubscribe” information.  We do not provide your information to anyone.  If you have kids and would like to be added to the youth distribution, let me know so you receive periodic information on new youth events, classes, holiday and summer camps.

Those of you who have not renewed for 2019, please help us save YOUR tax dollars by calling in and renewing today at 512-261-1010. Our annual membership mail out takes a lot of staff time and supply costs (envelopes, paper, stamps…) so we appreciate you calling us or dropping off your payment before the end of January.  Residents -$30 Non-Residents $80 per calendar year.

Trail of Lights :  The Trail of lights will be operational through tonight!  Last chance to take the family for a nice Texas winter stroll.  Please, no dogs on the trails.  Parking is available at City Hall and the Activity Center.

Big Band Bash: features the Republic of Texas Big Band.  BYOB and snacks and wear your dancing shoes.  8pm, Monday January 14th 2019.  Open and free to public, band will accept donations at this event.

Brown Bag Lunch Concert Series:  The City of Lakeway Arts Committee invites the community to bring their lunches and dine while listening to free live music.  The weekly concerts are from noon-1 p.m. every Thursday in January and February at the Lakeway Activity Center, 105 Cross Creek. They are open to everyone; no reservations or tickets are required. Plenty of table seating is available.

  • Jan. 10- Frank Cavitt on piano and vocals and the quartet captivate audiences with their honky-tonk style.
  • Jan. 17 -The Robert Skiles Quartet will present a musical valentine. Vocalist Shawnda Birch will be featured as they present popular songs with a taste of blues.
  • Jan. 24 - Matt Wilson will have everyone rockin’ to entertaining storytelling in music. Wilson is a consummate musician and vocalist, having gained national exposure wowing sold-out audiences as the “Piano Man” in the First National Tour of the Billy Joel Tony-award winning musical, “Movin’ Out.”
  • Jan. 31-The Danny Britt Trio was well received in 2018. The Trio on guitar, along with mandolin, bass and vocals will play rousing country and bluegrass tunes for all to enjoy.
  • Feb. 7-The Lake Travis Fiddlers, founded in 2000 by Lake Travis ISD Orchestra Director Anna Macias, are continuing to gain national recognition.
  • Feb. 14-The David Cummings Band brings romantic, popular standards to the stage for this special Valentine’s Day performance. Bring your sweetheart, best friends and dancing shoes.
  • Feb. 21-Pianist Red Young has had a spectacular musical career, including recordings with Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker, Linda Rondstadt, Eric Burdon, and Nelson Riddle as well as concert tours around the world. The Red Young Quartet will feature Young’s wife, vocalist Silvie Rider, in this concert.
  • Feb. 28-Get ready for Mardi Gras as The Second Line Jazz Band returns again to Lakeway. They have performed in concerts sponsored by the Austin Traditional Jazz Society and at various festivals.

 

Blood Drive:  The next Lakeway Community Blood Drive is on Saturday, January 19 from 8am-noon at the Lakeway Activity Center.  Walk-ins are welcome but priority is given to those with appointments.  Schedule you appointment at www.WeAreBlood.org  (refer to group code A197).

SPORTBALL-MULTI-SPORTS: Sportball provides children with a chance to learn fundamental sport skills in a non-competitive environment. Sportball sessions incorporate a proven curriculum structure with expert instruction and a supportive setting of positive encouragement and fun. The goal of the program is to help youngsters develop both physically and mentally, improving balance, strength, coordination, timing as well as concentration, listening skills, co-operation and self-confidence. Fencing:  Prevost d’ Armes Coach Murray competes and has instructed team and competitive fencing to students in local competitions and has had previous students compete all the way to the Olympics. Regardless if you want to compete professionally or just continue because of your competitive nature, this program will continue training skills in attacking and defending, footwork, blade work, agility, balance, strategy, sportsmanship and the rules of the game in this world renown sport! Students MUST wear long comfortable pants, athletic shoes and t-shirt.

Soccer Shots: Soccer Shots is the national leader in youth soccer development for children ages 2 through 8. Our program has been created under the guidance of childhood education specialists, MLS and USL professional soccer players, and experienced and licensed soccer coaches. Aikido “The Way of Harmony of the Spirit” with Russ Robinson NEW TIME!!!  Tuesdays, Jan 8-Feb 12, 7pm-8:30pm.  Learn self-defense techniques while achieving better physical health and spiritual enlightenment.  This martial art discipline strives for peace and harmony and is the most basic tenet of the art.  Aikido places great emphasis on motion and dynamics of movement by focusing energy to gain control by throwing you opponent away rather than typical punching or kicking.  Free for members, $60 Non-Members (will prorate)

Chinese Brush Stroke:  If you have been painting in the Asian style on rice paper for years or want to try it for the first time, you are welcome in this two-day workshop.  Gail Threinen is a member of the Sumi-e Society of America and the International Chinese Calligraphy and Ink Painting Society.  She has exhibited and won awards for her work both nationally and internationally. You will study Plum Blossoms, which is a symbol for resilience and perseverance because they bloom most vibrantly even in the snow and wisteria which symbolizes playfulness and adventure.  Paper will be provided.

SPORTBALL-MULTI-SPORTS: Sportball provides children with a chance to learn fundamental sport skills in a non-competitive environment. Sportball sessions incorporate a proven curriculum structure with expert instruction and a supportive setting of positive encouragement and fun. The goal of the program is to help youngsters develop both physically and mentally, improving balance, strength, coordination, timing as well as concentration, listening skills, co-operation and self-confidence. Fencing: Prevost d’ Armes Coach Murray competes and has instructed team and competitive fencing to students in local competitions and has had previous students compete all the way to the Olympics. Regardless if you want to compete professionally or just continue because of your competitive nature, this program will continue training skills in attacking and defending, footwork, blade work, agility, balance, strategy, sportsmanship and the rules of the game in this world renown sport! Soccer Shots: Soccer Shots is the national leader in youth soccer development for children ages 2 through 8. Kinderdance is a developmental dance program teaching the basics of ballet, tap, acrobatics, motor skills and creative movement. Foundational dance steps are taught and reinforced with age appropriate music and songs which encourage learning and memorization skills. Class meets once a week for one hour. Upon completion of the Spring session, this program includes a Spring Recital for family and friends to enjoy and celebrate! Chinese Brush Stroke: If you have been painting in the Asian style on rice paper for years or want to try it for the first time, you are welcome in this two-day workshop. Gail Threinen is a member of the Sumi-e Society of America and the International Chinese Calligraphy and Ink Painting Society. She has exhibited and won awards for her work both nationally and internationally. You will study Plum Blossoms, which is a symbol for resilience and perseverance because they bloom most vibrantly even in the snow and wisteria which symbolizes playfulness and adventure.
