Tickets are ONLY $5 for “A Symphony of Horror” performance on Saturday, October 27th, 6:30pm doors open, 7pm-showtime!  This movie features the Lake Travis High School Chamber Orchestra performing to the 1922 film classic “Nosferatu”.  Come see this all-time classic movie with real music accompaniment…just like the good ole days, like grandma…great grandma used to see!  Popcorn and drinks will be available to purchase at the movie.  Wear your best Vampire costume for the contest!  Prizes and more!

Viewpoints Speaker Series is a series of 5 dinners and speakers that has been offered at the Lakeway Activity Center for 19 years. It occurs on the third Sunday at 6pm at the LAC during the months of Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb and Mar. The cost is $110 per ticket ($90 for members) which includes a catered dinner.  We are almost sold out and the deadline is approaching as our first speaker is on Oct 21st and features Carl Hudson.  Carl is a born Texan with a degree in Chemistry.  He has always appreciated fine wines and coordinated a wine tasting group and managed a wine program for an upscale restaurant while working full time in the Petroleum industry.  He became involved with Heritage Vineyards and helped build a peach and apple orchard with 2 acres of grapes into a 50 acre award winning winery.  Upon retirement, he       re-entered the wine industry in Fredericksburg Texas and currently serves as a wine educator.  He recently earned the prestigious Certified Specialist of Wine Degree and the Wine Writer of the Year Award.  Viewpoints provides quality speakers at each event and you will be certain to enjoy each evening’s speaker.   You can sign up at the LAC and pick up a brochure or call 512-261-1010 and sign up over the phone.  Please notify us if you would like to have the list of speakers e-mailed to you.

Make your voice heard!  Do you want a work out room, Community Theater, youth complex, open parks…something else in Lakeway?  The City of Lakeway is working to improve its communication and engagement with the community. Friday, October 5, 10am-12pm Beginning Workshop in Alcohol Inks with Lynn Zwern.  Lynn is fast becoming one of our most popular instructors as she loves working with all ages of people and all types of art.  If you have not seen alcohol inks (and I had not), let me just say they are vibrant, fluid and creative.  They work I have seen true beginners do is pretty fantastic and they all had such fun.  Step out of your box and give it a try.   I promise you won’t be disappointed!  $25 member / $30 Non-Member  

We need one more person for this class to make the minimum.  Alcohol Inks-Holiday Projects on Fridays Oct 5-Nov 9, 2pm-4pm with Lynn Zwern.  This class will have you making various projects that can be used for the holidays or just for fun.  You will be applying different techniques in each session.  $160 Member / $180 Non-Member.  Sign up NOW!!

Aikido “The Way of Harmony of the Spirit” with Russ Robinson NEW TIME!!!  Tuesdays, October 2-30, 7pm-8:30pm.  Learn self-defense techniques while achieving better physical health and spiritual enlightenment.  This martial art discipline strives for peace and harmony and is the most basic tenet of the art.  Aikido places great emphasis on motion and dynamics of movement by focusing energy to gain control by throwing you opponent away rather than typical punching or kicking.  Free for members, $60 Non-Members

Chair Yoga with Rena Smith on Wednesdays & Fridays, Oct 3-Dec 19, 9:15am-10:15am Chair yoga increases mobility and flexibility by using modified yoga positions which may be adjusted for any fitness level.  Class is designed for mature adults who may have limited movement or difficulty getting up and down off the floor.  All activities will help increase health and fitness with focus on muscle activity, breath work, mediation and cognitive functionality.  Prepare to have fun and look forward to attending each class as health level improves!  Monthly rate is $60 for Members & $70 Non-members or buy all Fall (Oct 3-Dec 19) for $100 Members and $130 Non-Members

Slow Flow Yoga with Tonya is a gentle Vinyasa form of Hatha Yoga and ideal for the beginning to intermediate yoga students, Discover pranayama, asana and vinyasas (breathing, postures and movements) and begin the journey to a more peaceful and healthy state of being.  4 punch card is $40 for members and $45 for non-members.  $5 off if you buy 2 at the same time.  Cards expire 60 days after the first use.  $15 drop in fee

 

Heather Billitter is back in November with Line Dancing and Beginner Two Step.  The early bird discount of $10 off ends on October 25th !  Beginner Two Step is a partner class participation, so have your dancing partner sign up with you.  This is a great refresher course as well as for the beginning dancer.   Line Dancing is a single or partner dance.  Both classes are in a relaxed and party type atmosphere, so bring snacks and BYOB too.

Each session brings a new theme and syllabus. Sample Themes: Eat The Rainbow, Seasonal Flavors, Food Groups, Holidays, Book Cooks, STEAM and more. Each week, students will cook and taste something new from scratch using whole, fresh foods. Students demonstrate their knowledge and skills by cooking and tasting something new from scratch using whole, fresh foods. The project culminates with a meal presentation for parents. SPORTBALL- PARENT with TOT(16 months-36 months):  Parents and caregivers can have a direct hand in a preschooler’s development through a range of Multi-Sport programs. This parent and child program will teach children important introductory physical skills and help them develop confidence in their abilities. Adults will learn and understand proven teaching techniques that can be applied outside of Sportball classes. Classes focus on refining, rehearsing and repeating skills and playing games in a fun, creative, non-competitive environment. Classes are conducted once a week in 45-minute sessions, just the right length of time for active little minds and bodies.  Please have students bring a snack and non-carbonated sports drink or water to class each day. $200 MEMBER / $225 NON-MEMBER (Can prorate for late registrations)  (No class the week of Thanksgiving) You can still sign up on a prorated basis.

Soccer Shots is the national leader in youth soccer development for children ages 2 through 8. Our program has been created under the guidance of childhood education specialists, MLS and USL professional soccer players, and experienced and licensed soccer coaches. Our innovative lesson plans are developmentally appropriate and tailored specifically to the three distinct age groups we teach. Using these creative and age-appropriate curricula and infusing each lesson plan with enthusiasm and structured activity. Soccer Shots aims to leave a lasting, positive impact on every child we serve. For nearly 15 years, Soccer Shots has been introducing soccer exclusively to children ages 3-5. Using creative and imaginative games, weekly sessions focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting. We also highlight a positive character trait each session such as respect, teamwork, and appreciation. Soccer Shots will expose your child to the fun of soccer and provide the foundation needed to get started in the sport. $180 MEMBER / $200 NON-MEMBER + $30 Annual Soccer Shots Registration Fee

SPORTBALL- PARENT with TOT(16 months-36 months): Parents and caregivers can have a direct hand in a preschooler’s development through a range of Multi-Sport programs. This parent and child program will teach children important introductory physical skills and help them develop confidence in their abilities. Adults will learn and understand proven teaching techniques that can be applied outside of Sportball classes. Classes focus on refining, rehearsing and repeating skills and playing games in a fun, creative, non-competitive environment. Classes are conducted once a week in 45-minute sessions, just the right length of time for active little minds and bodies. Please have students bring a snack and non-carbonated sports drink or water to class each day. $200 MEMBER / $225 NON-MEMBER (Can prorate for late registrations) (No class the week of Thanksgiving) You can still sign up on a prorated basis.

SPORTBALL-MULTI-SPORTS 3-5 YRS: Sportball provides children with a chance to learn fundamental sport skills in a non-competitive environment. Sportball sessions incorporate a proven curriculum structure with expert instruction and a supportive setting of positive encouragement and fun. The goal of the program is to help youngsters develop both physically and mentally, improving balance, strength, coordination, timing as well as concentration, listening skills, co-operation and self-confidence. TAEKWONDO: Coach Wagner is an AAU certified coach, personal trainer and he & his wife both have black belts. Their teenage daughter and son are national champions and he will certainly inspire your young martial artist. While his lesson plans are fun and active, he continues to boost confidence while maintaining the necessary integrity and structure for Tae Kwon Do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit. Wear your Tae Kwon Do outfit.
(Students can be measured at first class and instructor will purchase uniform for an additional $40. Uniform, fee is to be paid directly to instructor on first day of class)
