Welcome new members!  I hope you will look over the information on upcoming classes, activities and events in June now.  Many items are coming up soon and need a couple more students to make the class minimum so call us in the morning, or they may be gone!

The Lakeway Activity Center City-wide Indoor Garage Sale is THIS SATURDAY, 8am-noon on June 2nd.  This unique community event is fun for collectors, families and bargain hunters. There is no admission fee for shoppers; we do collect non-perishable, canned food items in the lobby to benefit our local Lakeway area food bank as well as pet food /supplies for pet charities. If you wish to purchase a booth in order to sell your items on sale days, please contact the Lakeway Activity Center at 512-261-1010. 

Big Band Bash is on Monday, June 11th from 8pm-10pm and features The Republic of Texas Big Band.  If you enjoy big band music, come to this fun event.  No admission fee; band will accept donations at this event but not required.

Cool Arts Party is on August 11th from 1pm-5pm.  Activity Center members may apply to showcase their items at this event now.  Submissions will close on July 27th.  You must be a member of the Lakeway Activity Center to participate.  Membership is $25 per calendar year for residents and $75 per calendar year for non-residents.

Aikido “The Way of Harmony of the Spirit”:  Aikido is a Japanese martial art derived from Jujitsu and Kenjutsu but Aikido places emphasis on motion and dynamics of movement by focusing energy to gain control by throwing them away rather than typical punching or kicking.  The basic tenet of the art is striving for peace & harmony.  FREE for members Tuesdays from 8-9:30pm

CHAIR YOGA:  This class instructs on modified yoga postures, gentle breathing practices and some relaxation techniques while working together to increase flexibility and range of motion, improve breathing, and release any stress or tension. SLOW FLOW YOGAThis is a gentle Vinyasa "slow flow" form of Hatha Yoga and ideal for people at a beginner to intermediate level.  Learn to breathe slowly; experience postures for the body (asanas) and the integration of breath with sequential movements (vinyasas). Parent request!!!  NEW SATURDAY SESSION!!!  SPORTBALL- MULTI-SPORTS PARENT with TOT(16 months-36 months) 5 WEEK PROGRAM:  Parents and caregivers can have a direct hand in a preschooler’s development through a range of Multi-Sport programs. This parent / child program will teach children important introductory physical skills and help develop confidence in abilities. Adults will learn and understand proven teaching techniques that can be applied outside of Sportball classes. Classes focus on refining, rehearsing and repeating skills and playing games in a fun, creative, non-competitive environment. Astronomy:

ALL ABOUT TELESCOPES(9-12 yrs):  Campers will learn all about optics and telescopes and how they work.  They will get to use a variety of telescopes of different sizes and types, including viewing the sun through a solar-filtered telescope and will build their own "Galileoscope" to take home.  Additionally, they will learn about faint objects like nebulas and galaxies with the indoor inflatable planetarium!!!

Computers, Robotics, Technology:

 

LITTLE CODERS (5-7 YRS):  Our Little Coders camp is an opportunity for young children to develop their computational thinking skills, build their first programs, and have fun with new friends! The curriculum is designed specifically for early readers and takes into account cognitive abilities as well as the attention span typical for ages 5-7. Students are introduced to basic coding concepts in a variety of ways, from playing coding board games like Robot Turtles to programming their first games or animated stories. We use age-appropriate online tools, including code.org, Lightbot, Kodable and Scratch. After the camp, students will be able to share their projects with family and friends and continue programming at home with their Coding with Kids Scratch account.

BEGINNER GAME DEVELOPMENT (Ages 7-11):  Aspiring coders can take their first steps up the Coder’s Ladder by building their first games. Through a variety of projects, such as chasing games, mazes, and animated stories, campers will learn and practice the core coding concepts that will help lay the foundations for future coding success. Our unique curriculum and smaller class size allow our instructors to work with each student individually through personalized instruction, helping them progress at their own pace and ensuring they are appropriately challenged. At the conclusion of the camp, children will be able to share projects with family and friends and continue programming at home with their Coding with Kids Scratch account.

CIRCUITS W/ARDUINO  (Ages 11-17):  This camp is a great first step towards building robots or self-driving cars. Using an Arduino board, campers will build a circuit with several LEDs and sensors. We will learn how to program behavior on the board using the C programming language. Final projects may include a thermometer, parking sensor, light display, or a music generator. How about programming the Star Wars theme song?  After the camp, students can bring their creation home and continue re-building and programming the Arduino circuit board in many different ways. We recommend that students have some prior coding experience, either typed or block, before taking this class. $349 MEMBER / $365 NON-MEMBER June 25-29th, 9am-12pm  * Tuition includes an Arduino kit that the students will take home after the camp.

INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED GAME DEVELOPMENT (8-13 YRS):

Coding with Kids Intermediate/Advanced Scratch camps are designed to take your child’s game development skills up to the next level. Instructors serve as guides and coaches to small groups of campers as they build more complex games of their design. Projects focus on concepts as advanced as AI (Artificial Intelligence) or game physics and can include multi-level and multiplayer functionality. After the camp has ended, campers will be able to share projects with family and friends and continue programming at home using their Coding with Kids Scratch account.

LF101 FUNGINEERS’  K TO 1ST GRADE

Budding engineers’ entering grades K & 1st are given age appropriate LEGO® lessons and games, and LEGO® sets with plenty of instructors to help with building. We focus on creating a fun, friendly and caring environment for our youngest LEGO® builders! They will be challenged with the LEGO® WeDo robotic program where they will build & program their own robotic creations and learn about gears, pulleys, levers and more!

LF101 JR. ENGINEERS’  2ND & 3RD GRADE

For our advancing robot engineers’ entering 2nd & 3rd grade, lessons incorporate technology concepts, engineering principles, programming and imagination. Student will build robots, simple machines, LEGO® Brick creations and learn about science concepts all while having fun. They will be challenged with the LEGO® Mindstorms  NXT robotic program where they will build and program their own robotic creations!

LF101 ADVANCED ENGINEERS’  4TH TO 7TH GRADE

Our extreme builders & engineers entering 4th - 7th grade will learn about structure and design by building with our LEGO® building sets. They will be challenged with the LEGO® Mindstorms NXT & Ev3 robotic programming and will build their own robotic creations and have the opportunity to challenge their knowledge with mini competitions & challenges throughout the week!  Pack a lunch and sign up for both sessions.  Instructor will stay with students during lunch break.

Medical:

LITTLE MEDICAL SCHOOL (1ST-5TH GRADE): This new summer camp brings medicine, science and the importance of health in an entertaining, exciting and fun way.   Through interactive learning, kids will discover how the body and organs work, how to use medical instruments, administer first aid and even tie knots like a surgeon.  Each child will receive a working stethoscope to take home and a diploma as a graduate of the Little Medical School® after completion of the course.  Little Medical School curriculum is aligned with STEM objectives. Mindful workshops:

Building Resilience for Tweens (10-16 yrs): As kids reach their teen years, their capability to be resilient starts to decrease.  Resilience is an important part of growing up as it helps them navigate through challenges they may face such as bullying, divorce, teenage school dramas, illnesses/death of family or friends and more.  In this class, tweens will recognize these life challenges and be given the tools to understand and use them towards growth opportunities.   Instructor:  Sharon Hudson

SHINE YOUR LIGHT, BUILDING SELF ESTEEM (7-13 YRS):  Peer pressure and self-image can be difficult during the preteen years.  This program helps students in these more stressful times discover the value of self-love and tools available to build confidence and self-esteem so they can soar high.  Instructed by Sharon Hudson

Sports:

SPARRING WORKSHOP:  Sparring is an integral part of Taekwondo.  Unlike Kickboxing and MMA, Taekwondo sparring is a competitive Olympic sport.  Coach Will has designed this program so students can attend the 5 day camp or individual 1 day workshops.  Each day students will spar with the different rules of Taekwondo, karate and open point fighting and learn important sparring techniques like proper blocking, evasive maneuvers and effective attack and defense sequences.  Additionally, students are paired up and given time to free-spar under the guidance of the instructor.  By sparring with multiple partners, students get a feel for competition fighting.

ARCHERY (8 YRS & UP):  Learn the Olympic sport of archery in this Beginner to Intermediate Archery class for students 8 years and up!  If you have already taken the Basic class, you will continue to develop your skills where more emphasis will be placed on the 10 step Shot Cycle and work on advancement of shooting out to 20 yards.  The skills of modern day archery from the USA Archery Association will be taught through skills drills, active shooting and games.  All equipment is provided, classes will be held at the lower level of City Park so archers will need to dress accordingly.  All equipment is provided but students may use their own equipment during the class, after Coach has inspected and approved it.  The instructor accepts no responsibility for bad, faulty or unserviceable equipment or injuries/damages that result from equipment.  Compound bows must have no draw weights greater than 40 pounds.

XPLORE ARCHERY (8 yrs & up):  This program is a fun and perfect fit for archers of any age or ability who want to get involved in the sport of target archery.  Regardless if you are new to the sport of archery or a beginner archer looking for an introductory program, Explore Archery has what you need to get started!  You will learn important skills like range safety and proper shooting form, play exciting games and earn achievement awards.   All equipment is provided, class will be held outdoors so archers will need to dress accordingly.  The Olympic style recurve bow will be used.  Students are welcome to use their own equipment during class after it has been inspected and approved by the coach.  The instructor accepts no responsibility for bad, faulty or unserviceable equipment or injuries/damages that result from equipment.  Great class for the whole family!  Each class is from 10:45am-12:15pm NASP Instructor Coach Dahlseid    $40 MEMBER / $45 NON-MEMBER per each day

SPORTBALL-BASEBALL (3-9 YRS):  Sportball coaches will help your child become comfortable and understand the rules of game by using step-by-step instruction that breaks the game down and puts it into terms they can understand.  From first timers to all-stars, children will benefit from a specialized curriculum that will challenge kids on their own personal skill level to progress and refine their skills.  Children are split into age-appropriate groups (4-6yrs, 7-9yrs) to learn the fundamentals, practice real game scenarios, and finish off each day with a real game scrimmage.  Camp is being held at Dragon Park so please provide your child with non-carbonated sports drink or water and apply sun screen daily. Instruction provided by expert coaches trained by Sportball!

FENCING CAMP:  (3rd grade-8th grade) 5 Day Camp:  Students learn the basics of the three swords used in the Olympics in this week-long morning camp.  Skills in attacking and defending, foot work, blade work, agility, balance, strategy, sportsmanship and the rules of the game are all part of this fun and world popular sport!  ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED!  Students MUST wear long comfortable pants, athletic shoes and t-shirt.

CAMP PENIEL (1st grade - 5th grade) Location: 502 Hurst creek lower level by the lake:  With over 30 years of experience running Christian based day camp programs in Marble Falls, the Camp Peniel staff returns to Lakeway with this fun daycamp program at City Park.  Each "tribe" will be led by qualified "Chiefs" or "Maidens" and rotated through a variety of fun activities each day such as crafts, archery, pony rides, story time, canoe races, fishing and more.  This has been a HEAPIN BIG HIT, so sign up soon as space is limited!  Campers should wear sunscreen and bring water bottles.

The Lakeway Activity Center City-wide Indoor Garage Sale is THIS SATURDAY, 8am-noon on June 2nd. This unique community event is fun for collectors, families and bargain hunters. There is no admission fee for shoppers; we do collect non-perishable, canned food items in the lobby to benefit our local Lakeway area food bank as well as pet food /supplies for pet charities. If you wish to purchase a booth in order to sell your items on sale days, please contact the Lakeway Activity Center at 512-261-1010.

Big Band Bash is on Monday, June 11th from 8pm-10pm and features The Republic of Texas Big Band. If you enjoy big band music, come to this fun event. No admission fee; band will accept donations at this event but not required.

Cool Arts Party is on August 11th from 1pm-5pm. Activity Center members may apply to showcase their items at this event now. Submissions will close on July 27th. You must be a member of the Lakeway Activity Center to participate. Membership is $25 per calendar year for residents and $75 per calendar year for non-residents.

Computers, Robotics, Technology:

LITTLE CODERS (5-7 YRS): Our Little Coders camp is an opportunity for young children to develop their computational thinking skills, build their first programs, and have fun with new friends! The curriculum is designed specifically for early readers and takes into account cognitive abilities as well as the attention span typical for ages 5-7. Students are introduced to basic coding concepts in a variety of ways, from playing coding board games like Robot Turtles to programming their first games or animated stories. We use age-appropriate online tools, including code.org, Lightbot, Kodable and Scratch. After the camp, students will be able to share their projects with family and friends and continue programming at home with their Coding with Kids Scratch account.

BEGINNER GAME DEVELOPMENT (Ages 7-11): Aspiring coders can take their first steps up the Coder’s Ladder by building their first games. Our unique curriculum and smaller class size allow our instructors to work with each student individually through personalized instruction, helping them progress at their own pace and ensuring they are appropriately challenged. CIRCUITS W/ARDUINO (Ages 11-17): This camp is a great first step towards building robots or self-driving cars. Using an Arduino board, campers will build a circuit with several LEDs and sensors. We will learn how to program behavior on the board using the C programming language. Final projects may include a thermometer, parking sensor, light display, or a music generator. How about programming the Star Wars theme song? After the camp, students can bring their creation home and continue re-building and programming the Arduino circuit board in many different ways. LITTLE MEDICAL SCHOOL (1ST-5TH GRADE): This new summer camp brings medicine, science and the importance of health in an entertaining, exciting and fun way. Through interactive learning, kids will discover how the body and organs work, how to use medical instruments, administer first aid and even tie knots like a surgeon. Each child will receive a working stethoscope to take home and a diploma as a graduate of the Little Medical School® after completion of the course. Building Resilience for Tweens (10-16 yrs): As kids reach their teen years, their capability to be resilient starts to decrease. SPARRING WORKSHOP: Sparring is an integral part of Taekwondo. Unlike Kickboxing and MMA, Taekwondo sparring is a competitive Olympic sport. Coach Will has designed this program so students can attend the 5 day camp or individual 1 day workshops. Each day students will spar with the different rules of Taekwondo, karate and open point fighting and learn important sparring techniques like proper blocking, evasive maneuvers and effective attack and defense sequences. Additionally, students are paired up and given time to free-spar under the guidance of the instructor. By sparring with multiple partners, students get a feel for competition fighting.

ARCHERY (8 YRS & UP): Learn the Olympic sport of archery in this Beginner to Intermediate Archery class for students 8 years and up! If you have already taken the Basic class, you will continue to develop your skills where more emphasis will be placed on the 10 step Shot Cycle and work on advancement of shooting out to 20 yards. The skills of modern day archery from the USA Archery Association will be taught through skills drills, active shooting and games. All equipment is provided, classes will be held at the lower level of City Park so archers will need to dress accordingly. All equipment is provided but students may use their own equipment during the class, after Coach has inspected and approved it. The instructor accepts no responsibility for bad, faulty or unserviceable equipment or injuries/damages that result from equipment. Compound bows must have no draw weights greater than 40 pounds.

XPLORE ARCHERY (8 yrs & up): This program is a fun and perfect fit for archers of any age or ability who want to get involved in the sport of target archery. Regardless if you are new to the sport of archery or a beginner archer looking for an introductory program, Explore Archery has what you need to get started! You will learn important skills like range safety and proper shooting form, play exciting games and earn achievement awards. All equipment is provided, class will be held outdoors so archers will need to dress accordingly. The Olympic style recurve bow will be used. Students are welcome to use their own equipment during class after it has been inspected and approved by the coach. SPORTBALL(3-8 YRS): What a fantastic experience for your child! This half day camp focuses on eight core Sportball sports including hockey, soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball, volleyball, golf and football and also includes arts & crafts, snack time, stories, music and co-operative games with positive theme days. Kids have the time of their life in our Sportball classes! Instruction provided by Sportball Coaches
Students will be separated by age and skill levels. June 11-15, 9am-12pm $190 MEMBER / $210 NON-MEMBER ($10 fee included for take home jersey)

SPORTBALL-BASEBALL (3-9 YRS): Sportball coaches will help your child become comfortable and understand the rules of game by using step-by-step instruction that breaks the game down and puts it into terms they can understand. From first timers to all-stars, children will benefit from a specialized curriculum that will challenge kids on their own personal skill level to progress and refine their skills. Children are split into age-appropriate groups (4-6yrs, 7-9yrs) to learn the fundamentals, practice real game scenarios, and finish off each day with a real game scrimmage. Camp is being held at Dragon Park so please provide your child with non-carbonated sports drink or water and apply sun screen daily. Instruction provided by expert coaches trained by Sportball!
Baseball Camp will focus on the following skills:
* Proper batting stance & swing (Tee & pitch)
* Glove use / Fielding
* Base running
* Playing various positions
* Proper throwing technique
* Pitching
* Tag outs / force outs

FENCING CAMP: (3rd grade-8th grade) 5 Day Camp: Students learn the basics of the three swords used in the Olympics in this week-long morning camp. Skills in attacking and defending, foot work, blade work, agility, balance, strategy, sportsmanship and the rules of the game are all part of this fun and world popular sport! ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED! Students MUST wear long comfortable pants, athletic shoes and t-shirt.

Traditional Outdoor Day Camp:

CAMP PENIEL (1st grade - 5th grade) Location: 502 Hurst creek lower level by the lake: With over 30 years of experience running Christian based day camp programs in Marble Falls, the Camp Peniel staff returns to Lakeway with this fun daycamp program at City Park. Each "tribe" will be led by qualified "Chiefs" or "Maidens" and rotated through a variety of fun activities each day such as crafts, archery, pony rides, story time, canoe races, fishing and more. This has been a HEAPIN BIG HIT, so sign up soon as space is limited! Campers should wear sunscreen and bring water bottles.
