More than 20 first responder agencies from Central Texas will join together for the 7th Annual Public Safety Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 22.
The free annual event will take place at the Oaks at Lakeway, 1900 RM 620 S., next to the new Lakeway H-E-B.
Public Safety Day was founded in 2009 to shine the spotlight on Central Texas first responders and their mission with a fun, educational event for the Lake Travis community.
This day gives the public a chance to interact with first responders on a level that does not involve an emergency situation and to learn about what they do and the tools and resources they use to keep you, your family and your pets safe.
In its seventh year, agencies from across Central Texas will bring their helicopters, police cars, motorcycles, ambulances, fire trucks, rescue boats, ATVs, K-9s, horses, wildland fire mitigation equipment, BEAR large tactical armor vehicle and more.
Families may enjoy music, food and drink, local businesses and non-profit groups, youth and adult Combat Challenge, Kid’s Fun Zone, Home Depot Kid’s Workshop, face painting and more.
Partnering to bring the citizens this event are Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Lakeway and Bee Cave police departments, along with the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce, Lake Travis Fire Rescue Community Foundation, Lakeway Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and Bee Cave Police Benevolent Foundation.
A sampling of agencies scheduled to participate are Austin Police Department Mounted Division, Travis County Search and Rescue, Austin-Travis County EMS, Capital Area Trauma Regional Advisory Council, Texas Parks and Wildlife Operation Game Thief, Travis County Parks, Travis County Parks Bicycle Patrol, STARFlight, Travis County Water Control and Improvement District No. 17, Pedernales Fire Department, Red Cross and Travis County SWAT.
