The Lakeway Heritage Commission was formed by a resolution of the City Council on July 16, 2001. Prior to that time, the organization was known as the Lakeway Historical Society, which was established in December 1988. They became a non-profit organization on March 31, 1993.
The Commission was organized exclusively for historical, educational, advisory and civic purposes, as listed below:
The Lakeway Community Archives is committed to collecting, preserving and maintaining those materials of enduring value that document the community’s origin and development. Furthermore the Archives is dedicated to providing secure, open access to these materials for historical research and educational purposes for the entire Lakeway community and other interested users.
