This team has been in place for several years at the department. However, recently the complexion of the team has changed and formal applications were taken as part of a new selection process. The new team members are required to attend monthly training and will be wearing a new honor guard uniform. The team will represent the city at city functions and at other events in the state.

The honor guard is a ceremonial unit composed of officers from the patrol and support teams. The honor guard is tasked with representing the police department in events ranging from parades to funerals. Careful attention to detail and extreme discipline are the hallmarks of our honor guard team. Additionally during this next year we will be forming a drum and pipes team to escort the Honor Guard at events!

The Lakeway Police Department is one of only a handful of departments in the country chosen to care for the U.S. Honor Flag. The U.S. Honor flag flew over the state capitol on 9/11. The flag was then taken to ground zero in New York City where it flew over the rescue efforts immediately following the attack. The U.S. Honor Flag has been designated as a National Treasure. LPD hosted the flag on several occasions in 2011ansd will continue to do so in the future. In 2011 Chief Todd Radford was asked to sit on the Executive Committee for the Honor Network that oversees the flags activities and security. www.ushonorflag.org
