Welcome to all of our new members!!!  If this is your first time to receive my e-mail, the information below is about events and activities coming up in Lakeway.  I typically send out e-mails about once a month (an occasional reminders on bigger events).  Please take a few minutes and review the whole e-mail as many items occur soon.  If you do not wish to receive the updates, either notify me by reply e-mail or follow the “unsubscribe” information.  We do not provide your information to anyone.  If you have kids and would like to be added to the youth distribution, let me know so you receive periodic information on new youth events, classes, holiday and summer camps.

 “A Symphony of Horror” features the Lake Travis High School Chamber Orchestra performing to the 1922 film classic “Nosferatu”.  Performance on Saturday, October 27th, 6:30pm doors open, 7pm-showtime!  This all-time classic movie has real music accompaniment…just like the good ole days, like grandma…great grandma used to see!  Popcorn and drinks will be available to purchase at the movie.  Wear your best Vampire costume for the contest!  Prizes and more!  Come show your support for our school musicians!!!  ONLY $5!!! 

Tickets are $25 and on sale for the Lakeway Players:  A Musical Revue “Show Tunes” celebrating Tony award winning composer Jerry Herman.  November 1, 2, 3 & 4th! Table set up on Thursday-Saturday so BYOB and food.  General seating on the Sunday matinee performance on November 4th

Viewpoints Speaker Series is a series of 5 dinners and speakers offered at the Lakeway Activity Center.  This is the 19th year!  Viewpoints is held on the third Sunday at 6pm on the months of Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb and Mar. The cost is $110 per ticket ($90 for members) for the series of 5 and includes a catered dinner.  You can only get this price now!!!  After October, tickets are $35 each.  We are almost sold out and the deadline is approaching as our first speaker is on Oct 21st and features Carl Hudson.  Carl is a born Texan with a degree in Chemistry.  He has always appreciated fine wines and coordinated a wine tasting group and managed a wine program for an upscale restaurant while working full time in the Petroleum industry.  He became involved with Heritage Vineyards and helped build a peach and apple orchard with 2 acres of grapes into a 50 acre award winning winery.  Upon retirement, he  re-entered the wine industry in Fredericksburg Texas and currently serves as a wine educator.  He recently earned the prestigious Certified Specialist of Wine Degree and the Wine Writer of the Year Award.  Viewpoints provides quality speakers at each event and you will be certain to enjoy each evening’s speaker.   You can sign up at the LAC and pick up a brochure or call 512-261-1010 and sign up over the phone.  Please notify us if you would like to have the list of speakers e-mailed to you.

THE CITY OF ARTS COMMITTEE & PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT PRESENT THE SUNDAY AFTERNOON CONCERT SERIES:  AUSTIN BRASS BAND is a traditional British-style brass band. The group differs from American-style brass ensembles by using cornets, flugelhorns and tenor horns instead of trumpets and French horns. British brass bands also use baritones as well as euphoniums, along with trombones, both Eb and BBb tubas and percussion. This unique instrumentation provides a distinctive sound that is rich, round and mellow.  Conducted by John Caputa of the USAF Band of the West, San Antonio  No admission fees - general seating.  Sunday, October 28th, 2018 4pm-5pm

Big Band Bash features the Republic of Texas Big Band.  BYOB and snacks and wear your dancing shoes.  8pm, Monday November 12th 2018.  Open and free to public, band will accept donations at this event.

The next Lakeway Community Blood Drive is on Saturday, November 17th, from 8 A.M. to noon, at the Lakeway Activity Center.  Donors with appointments are given priority.  Walk-ins are welcome, too.  Schedule an appointment or ask questions at WeAreBlood.org (refer to Group Code A197) or by emailing LakewayCommunityBloodDrive@gmail.com.  Questions? The Hat Creek Burger Company in Lakeway has provided up to four taco cards for each donor attending, each card good for one free breakfast taco.

Breakfast with Santa is December 8th; 2 seating’s available, 8:30am and 10:30am.  Tickets are $15 each and include a sit down meal and a picture of each child with Santa (bring your cameral for additional photos).  We hear Rudolph and the World’s Tallest Elf may be stopping by and other fun surprises are in store!  Members may purchase their tickets beginning November 6th and non-members may purchase beginning November 16th

Santa’s Mailbox-Santa’s Special Delivery mailbox will be available at the Lakeway Activity Center on December 1st.  If your child includes their name and address (legibly written), they may get a note back from one of Santa helpers.  In January,  letters will be available to be picked up at the center for those who would like to keep them for their memory books.

FIRST AID WITH CPR/AED FOR ADULT : You never know when an emergency may arise and being prepared and knowing the basics could save your neighbors or family members life. You will be more comfortable and confident in an emergency situation as this class has thorough instruction and hands on experience with a real AED machine. When you have completed this class, you will have certifications for AED/CPR and FIRST AID.  Please dress comfortably and bring a pen and paper to class.  This is provided FREE by VIK Complete Care.  Certifications will be available for pick up at VIK Complete Care in Lakeway 7 days after the date of the class. Aikido “The Way of Harmony of the Spirit” with Russ Robinson NEW TIME!!!  Tuesdays, Nov 6-Dec 11, 7pm-8:30pm.  Learn self-defense techniques while achieving better physical health and spiritual enlightenment.  This martial art discipline strives for peace and harmony and is the most basic tenet of the art.  Aikido places great emphasis on motion and dynamics of movement by focusing energy to gain control by throwing you opponent away rather than typical punching or kicking.  Free for members, $60 Non-Members

Chair Yoga with Rena Smith on Wednesdays & Fridays, Oct 3-Dec 19, 9:15am-10:15am Chair yoga increases mobility and flexibility by using modified yoga positions which may be adjusted for any fitness level.  Class is designed for mature adults who may have limited movement or difficulty getting up and down off the floor.  All activities will help increase health and fitness with focus on muscle activity, breath work, mediation and cognitive functionality.  Prepare to have fun and look forward to attending each class as health level improves!  Monthly rate is $60 for Members & $70 Non-members or buy all Fall (Oct 3-Dec 19) for $100 Members and $130 Non-Members

Slow Flow Yoga with Tonya is a gentle Vinyasa form of Hatha Yoga and ideal for the beginning to intermediate yoga students, Discover pranayama, asana and vinyasas (breathing, postures and movements) and begin the journey to a more peaceful and healthy state of being.  4 punch card is $40 for members and $45 for non-members.  $5 off if you buy 2 at the same time.  Cards expire 60 days after the first use.  $15 drop in fee

Heather Billetter is back in November with Beginner Two Step.  The early bird discount of $10 off ends on October 25th !  Beginner Two Step is a partner class participation, so have your dancing partner sign up with you.  This is a great refresher course as well as for the beginning dancer and held in a relaxed, party type atmosphere, so bring snacks and BYOB too. Learning Tai Chi is a developmental process. The better your Tai Chi, the more you benefit. This simple approach to Tai Chi will have you learn by doing. Most people can practice Tai Chi arts in spite of handicaps or ailments. Numerous illnesses have shown improvement with regular practices of Tai Chi exercises. Developing balance and coordination are part of the learning process and repetition of the moves help develop memory pathways. In addition, these exercises will reduce stress and enhance immune system health.

SPORTBALL- PARENT with TOT(16 months-36 months):  Parents and caregivers can have a direct hand in a preschooler’s development through a range of Multi-Sport programs. This parent and child program will teach children important introductory physical skills and help them develop confidence in their abilities. Adults will learn and understand proven teaching techniques that can be applied outside of Sportball classes. Classes focus on refining, rehearsing and repeating skills and playing games in a fun, creative, non-competitive environment. Breakfast with Santa is December 8th; 2 seating’s available, 8:30am and 10:30am. Tickets are $15 each and include a sit down meal and a picture of each child with Santa (bring your cameral for additional photos). We hear Rudolph and the World’s Tallest Elf may be stopping by and other fun surprises are in store! Members may purchase their tickets beginning November 6th and non-members may purchase beginning November 16th.

Santa’s Mailbox-Santa’s Special Delivery mailbox will be available at the Lakeway Activity Center on December 1st. If your child includes their name and address (legibly written), they may get a note back from one of Santa helpers. In January, letters will be available to be picked up at the center for those who would like to keep them for their memory books.

Aikido “The Way of Harmony of the Spirit” with Russ Robinson NEW TIME!!! Tuesdays, Nov 6-Dec 11, 7pm-8:30pm. Learn self-defense techniques while achieving better physical health and spiritual enlightenment. This martial art discipline strives for peace and harmony and is the most basic tenet of the art. Aikido places great emphasis on motion and dynamics of movement by focusing energy to gain control by throwing you opponent away rather than typical punching or kicking. Chair Yoga with Rena Smith on Wednesdays & Fridays, Oct 3-Dec 19, 9:15am-10:15am Chair yoga increases mobility and flexibility by using modified yoga positions which may be adjusted for any fitness level. Yoga by Rena is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-10:15am. These yoga classes are a blend of movement, breath, meditation designed for active adults. Learning Tai Chi is a developmental process. The better your Tai Chi, the more you benefit. This simple approach to Tai Chi will have you learn by doing. Most people can practice Tai Chi arts in spite of handicaps or ailments. Numerous illnesses have shown improvement with regular practices of Tai Chi exercises. Developing balance and coordination are part of the learning process and repetition of the moves help develop memory pathways. In addition, these exercises will reduce stress and enhance immune system health.
