Winter Storm Aftermath

WINTER STORM RECOVERY

It's been quite a week, Lakeway. First of all, we appreciate your patience the last several days. We know the power issue is frustrating, and we are hopeful power crews will get power fully restored to everyone quickly. We know many have been out for several days, and we are doing what we can to try to accommodate those still without power while Austin Energy and PEC crews continue their repair efforts. Temperatures will remain above freezing throughout the day, melting much of the remaining ice. However, continue to use caution on area roads with downed tree limbs and non-functioning traffic lights (treat as 4-way stop). Temperatures may drop again overnight, so be careful with slick spots. Some power was restored overnight and this morning to the central part of Lakeway (The Oaks/Randall's/H-E-B locations), as well as parts of Flintrock Falls. Power crews are still working to fix the remaining power issues, but unfortunately, there is still no time estimate from Austin Energy on when those customers will have power restored. Travis County MUDS 11, 12 & 13 (which serve a large part of Rough Hollow) are currently experiencing a water outage or low pressure due to a recent power failure from the wholesale provider. Once restored, there will be a precautionary boil water notice for those customers. CLICK HERE for more details. If you need bottled water, please email us at [email protected] Lakeway MUD customers are still being asked to conserve water following power outages. A warming center is still available at Lakeway PD (1941 Lohmans Crossing Road) for those without power. For non-emergencies, call Lakeway PD at (512) 261-2800. Additional questions or issues? Email us at [email protected].

Thank you to all of the first responders, as well as our Public Works, Parks, Police staff and Emergency Management crews for all of their hard work the last several days helping keep the roads in good shape, setting up a warming location and keeping our residents safe. We also appreciate everyone who played a part this week in helping their neighbors.

Brush Pile

BRUSH/TREE LIMB RECYCLING

Brush and tree limb recycling is available at Public Works (3303 Serene Hills Drive) from 7 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. Friday and through the weekend (unless capacity is reached). THIS IS ONLY FOR LAKEWAY RESIDENTS AND FOR TREE LIMBS AND BRUSH ONLY. This IS NOT for dumping other materials. Private contractors are not allowed to drop-off for others. The City of Lakeway is also working on curbside pick-up options for brush and tree limbs. You can go ahead and pile up your limbs and brush at your curb. No pick-up time has been selected, but we are hoping to have an option in place by early next week. Additionally, please DO NOT dump in unauthorized locations throughout the City of Lakeway, including our greenbelts.

Please know that downed limbs and trees are the responsibility of the property owner. Please also be cautious of moving limbs. Live wires could be a possibility and deadly if you make contact. Only professional crews should go anywhere near a downed power line. Be sure to call your power company if you spot a downed line. Because of the drought, many roots of trees were dried out, so the ice is uprooting some of them. Be CAREFUL if you venture outside. Also, be careful at area parks as there are several broken limbs and limbs still falling due to the ice. Hamilton Greenbelt is currently closed while crews clean up potentially hazardous limbs that are hanging from trees. Please allow crews over the next few days to assess the situation and fix any additional possible hazards in the parks.
