The updated Golf Cart ordinance that will allow golf cart use on some local public roads will take effect this weekend starting on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023. The updates were approved by Lakeway City Council in October, and will allow golf cart users the option to drive on some of the public roads in Lakeway with speed limits not exceeding 35 mph. However, golf carts must be equipped with specific safety equipment, a slow-moving emblem and state-issued license plate obtained from the Travis County Tax Office. The golf cart operator must be of legal driving age, carrying a license and the proper insurance. Lap riding, towing equipment and driving on sidewalks is not permitted.
