It's the holiday season, and while that means gifts and celebrations for many of us, some may be looking to take advantage of that holiday cheer. The Lakeway Police Department does not receive many reports of package thefts from porches, but that number has increased this year in Lakeway (from 7 reports in 2021 to 11 reports so far in 2022). It's important to follow some simple tips to help deter that type of criminal activity. That includes:
Making sure the delivery location is well-lit.
Requiring a signature for delivery.
Using a door bell camera or similar recording device.
Having the package delivered to a location you will be at, like your workplace.
Having your neighbors check in on your deliveries.
Package theft is a serious crime, and could result in jail time up to 20 years depending on the value and number of packages or pieces of mail stolen. For more tips on preventing package theft and for information on the Lakeway Police Department's House Watch Program, please CLICK HERE.
