Rise in Theft from Vehicles

Image showing to Lock Vehicles

The City of Lakeway Police Department reminds residents to please make sure to lock your vehicles and bring in any valuables with you or hide those valuables from sight when parking your car.  We continually receive reports of residents leaving their cars unlocked with valuable items inside. This sends an indirect invitation for criminals to come back.

We recently experienced an uptick in theft from vehicles at properties throughout Lakeway and Bee Cave, and unfortunately, in the recent past some of those reports also included the theft of firearms. In this instance, it not only makes it a concern for those who lost their property, but also now a concern and a potential safety issue for others. If you find that items have been stolen, please contact Lakeway Police Department immediately at (512) 261-2800 so officers can gather the proper physical evidence. Do not drive to another location, only to call police at your destination. In this instance, it makes it difficult for our officers to collect the proper evidence to help lead to a better resolution.

Please lock your vehicles, remove your valuables and firearms, and please take your keys with you to protect not only yourself, but others as well. This also includes your homes. Keep your doors locked and secured. If you are planning a trip these last few months of summer, we also invite you to sign up for our House Watch program so we can help keep an eye on your property when you leave town: https://www.lakeway-tx.gov/1305/House-Watch-Request

Please stay safe out there Lakeway!
