Lakeway Hires New Assistant City Manager

Lakeway Assistant City Manager Ashby Grundman

Ashby Grundman will become Lakeway’s next assistant city manager. Lakeway City Council unanimously approved his appointment on the evening of Monday, March 6 at the Lakeway Special City Council meeting. Ashby’s first day will be Monday, March 20.

Ashby has previous experience working for the City of West Lake Hills as assistant city administrator and director of building and development services. He also worked for the City of Pasadena as a planner, and as director of planning and development services with the City of Hutto. Those three cities gave Ashby valuable experience working with a larger city (population over 150,000), a smaller well-established community and a rapidly-growing community.

As Lakeway’s assistant city manager, Ashby will oversee the building and development services department, IT and grants program. Ashby will also be responsible for guiding Lakeway’s economic development, as well as assisting the city manager with strategic planning. Joseph Molis was the previous assistant city manager, and officially took over as city manager late last year after serving for several months in the interim role following the departure of Julie Oakley in September of 2022.

“I am looking forward to being involved in the community and having the opportunity to positively impact Lakeway,” Ashby wrote. “Lakeway has always been a city that I admired and has been a standard I have used as a reference throughout my career. I am looking forward to the opportunity and excited to meet the staff and residents.”

Ashby earned his Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, as well as his Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning from Texas A&M University. He is a member of the Texas City Manager’s Association and American Planning Association, as well as a certified planner with his AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) credentials. Ashby enjoys following his Aggie’s on the football field, traveling and spending time with his wife and daughter, as well as taking care of their many farm animals.

We are excited to welcome Ashby to the Lakeway team!
