Caution for Drivers during Deer Rut Season

Picture of a white-tailed male deer

Deer Rut Season typically runs from late September/early October through December. It's important to be cautious on area roadways as deer may experience behavioral changes during this time, and could quickly dart out into oncoming traffic with little notice. It's also important to stay clear of the deer population and don't attempt to approach them if they are nearby.

As a reminder, the feeding of deer is prohibited in the City of Lakeway. The food given to the deer population by humans could be an unhealthy alternative to their normal diet. It also causes deer to congregate in more populated areas, causing potential damage to area properties and a possible issues for drivers.
