Registration Open For May Blood Drive

The next Lakeway Community Blood Drive will be from 8 a.m. through noon on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the Lakeway Activity Center located at 105 Cross Creek. As per the last several blood drives, COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place at this event as well. Please consider helping those in need in the community by scheduling an appointment to donate.

This drive will once again be by appointment only. No walk-ins will be accepted. Masks will be required at the event and social/physical distancing guidelines will be in place.

You can schedule an appointment by visiting www.weareblood.org/donor/ and searching for Group Code A197. You can also contact the coordinators for an appointment at lakewaycommunityblooddrive@gmail.com. You are welcome to also email if you have questions. If appointments fill up, you may also use the email to be included on any waitlist. If a spot opens up in the days before the event, someone will contact you as soon as possible.

As of October 28, 2020, testing will take place on donated blood to help identify COVID-19 antibodies, with results available to the donor in the days following the drive. If you have received a COVID-19 vaccination, not as part of a trail, whether with a first or second shot, you are still immediately eligible to donate blood. If you are part of a vaccine trial, there is a 14-day wait period after your shot before you can donate.

The We Are Blood website includes useful information regarding eligibility and answers to other frequently asked questions. If you have had a recent vaccination from another source or are considering one, have traveled internationally, or are currently taking antibiotics or other medications, take a look to see what might – or might not – impact your ability to donate.

To be eligible, donors need to be in generally good health, at least 17 years old and weigh 115 pounds or more for whole blood donations. Photo identification is required. Organizers recommend that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of liquids before donating.
