A record number of residents and city guests attended Lakeway's 44th annual Fourth of July celebration yesterday (Thursday, July 4), which kicked off at 8:30 a.m. with a parade down Lakeway Drive. It ended at the Activity Center, where Grand Marshal, Capt. Ken Cockrell spoke during the Pageantry of Flags ceremony about his work with NASA. It fit perfectly with the theme this year of "Fly Me To The Moon," along with several floats decked out with images of rockets, the space shuttle and astronaut suits. There was also a cookout on the patio of the Lakeway Activity Center, where staff and volunteers grilled up 850 hot dogs.
We also had a record number of entries this year - 140 total! It kept the judges busy, as participants competed for top prizes in several categories.
