Lakeway Police Facility Project Presentation
Tuesday, March 21, 2017
The City of Lakeway will deliver a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m. March 21 on the proposed $23,065,000 police facility project for a May 6, 2017 bond election. The event will be livestreamed at www.lakeway-tx.gov/videos.
The City of Lakeway will host one formal presentation and three open houses about the proposed $23 million bond for a police facility project that will go before voters May 6.
The formal presentation will be at 6:30 p.m. March 21 at Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing, and the three open houses will be on March 27, April 6 and April 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Lakeway Activity Center, 105 Cross Creek.
Police Facility Advisory Committee chairman Dave DeOme and Police Chief Todd Radford will deliver the formal presentation on March 21 and answer questions afterward. The presentation will be livestreamed and available for viewing later at www.lakeway-tx.gov/videos.
The open houses will feature a come and go format. No formal presentation will be given, but city officials and police staff members will be present to provide information on the project informally.
All events are open to the public and free to attend.
“We are hosting these events so voters may get accurate information about the police facility project,” DeOme said. “We want to provide them with the facts so they may make informed decisions at the polls.”
The city also has created a new webpage at www.lakeway-tx.gov/policefacilityproject where the public can find more information about the proposed project, its cost breakdown and architectural renderings.
Early voting is from April 24-May 2, and Election Day is May 6.
Police Facility Project
The proposed $23 million police facility project is designed to serve Lakeway and Lakeway Police Department for at least 25 years based on current population projections.
It would be located on 4.9 acres at the northwest corner of Lohmans Crossing and Lohmans Spur, across from Lake Travis Community Library.
The police facility design is for 31,000 square feet of space to house police administration, patrol, dispatch, criminal investigation divisions and support services as well as a training room, staff and building support, property and evidence, temporary holding and exercise-training areas. The proposed building also would feature a sally port for detainee transfers and a secure parking area for police vehicles and employees’ personal vehicles.
The city’s financial adviser estimates that issuing general obligation bonds in the amount of $23,065,000 will incur an estimated annual debt service of approximately $1 million resulting in an increase in the city’s I&S tax rate by an estimated 2.61 cents, each based on current market conditions and appraisal values.
Such an increase in the tax rate would increase the tax levy to the average homeowner by an estimated $10.27 per month. The average home value in Lakeway is $472,001.
