Skunks

These striskunksped stinkers are nocturnal and nearly blind. Their only defense is spraying. So, when you are out walking your dog at night, use a flashlight and watch out for them so you and your dog keep your distance. Skunks eat ticks and other insects, as well as snakes, so having them around isn’t all bad. This is another species of wanderers, tending to relocate frequently on their own. They do carry rabies, so beware if you see one acting oddly.

If you do get sprayed, there are commercial products to remove the worst of the stench, but most people use a homemade remedy similar to this: 1 quart bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide, ¼ cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon liquid dishwashing soap (like Dawn).
