Water Quality PondS
Purpose of Requirements
The implementation of water quality ponds is a vital component of the City of Lakeway’s development strategy. In addition to providing a source of beauty to our community, these ponds facilitate necessary environmental services related to the prevention of flooding and the treatment of stormwater. On December 16, 2019, the City of Lakeway adopted Ordinance 2019-12-16-01 which serves to implement the design, inspection, and maintenance requirements for post-construction water quality controls (i.e. ponds) of the LCRA Highland Lakes Watershed Ordinance within the City of Lakeway. The purpose of these requirements is to ensure that all water quality controls are designed and maintained so that they best serve their intended purpose(s) – stormwater treatment and flood protection.
Routine Inspection and Maintenance Requirements
It is the responsibility of the property owner or homeowners’ association to ensure existing water quality ponds are inspected and maintained in accordance with the requirements detailed in Chapter 5 of the LCRA Water Quality Management Technical Manual. Inspections must be performed by a licensed engineer or a stormwater treatment professional at a minimum of two times per year, with at least one inspection completed during or immediately following a rain event. A completed report form, available below, is required to be submitted to the City of Lakeway at [email protected] for each inspection. Any deficiencies that are identified during an inspection must be repaired/addressed within thirty (30) days of the inspection.
