Parks & Recreation Committee
Although the operation of City of Lakeway parks and recreational facilities is the responsibility of the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Parks and Recreation Committee shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and to the Director of Parks and Recreation to recommend the establishment of facilities, programs and policies, including the acquisition and development or improvement of land or lots earmarked for parks and recreational purposes, which meet the recreational needs of the citizens of the city.
In such capacity, the committee shall assist the director in establishing long-range goals for the parks system, in developing capital improvements programs, and in formulating recommendations for expenditures from the “park fund” in accordance with section 28.05.003 of the city's Code of Ordinances. Proposals which significantly change the annual plan for recreational programming and all decisions requiring City Council approval shall be accompanied by a recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Committee.
Membership and Terms
The committee shall consist of not more than seven members appointed by the mayor with the consent of the City Council. The term of office shall be in accordance with the City Charter, Article VII, Section 7.06. In making appointments, the mayor shall seek to appoint persons who are knowledgeable about and interested in supporting the city's long-range plans for providing recreational opportunities. Members appointed should represent different geographic areas of the city. The members of the committee shall serve without pay.
