The Lakeway Firewise Committee and Lake Travis Fire Rescue are holding the first Firewise Field Day of 2018. The field day will take place at Lakeway City Park on Saturday, April 7 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to pick up and move cut brush to central collection sites near two chippers.
City Park north of Ranger Field is full of dense, small diameter cedar trees which would burn with great intensity if they caught fire. The work area in City Park is forested with mostly level slopes. Volunteer chainsaw workers are currently pruning and thinning out the cedar forest. Brush will be on the ground ready for pickup.
Bring work gloves and wear long sleeved shirts, long pants and sturdy close-toed shoes suitable for hiking. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and hats are recommended.
Beverages and fruit will be provided. A pizza lunch for all volunteers will follow the event.
Plan to meet at the Ranger Field entrance at 8:30 a.m. Parking is available at Ranger Field. The parking lot at City Park's main entrance in front of Huser Pavilion may be used as overflow parking.
Lakeway City Park is at 502 Hurst Creek Road. The Ranger Field entrance is the second entrance past City Park's main entrance across the street from 605 Hurst Creek Road. Map
