Jim Powell Biography
Jim was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and had never lived anywhere else until Hurricane Rita convinced him and his wife, Maureen, to move to the Hill Country. In 2008, they were blessed to be led to Lakeway, which felt like home from their first day here.
Since moving here, he has been actively involved in The Lakeway Church, where he is currently serving as an Elder.
Jim has served the community in many ways: the City Building Commission for three years, the Lakeway Newcomers Club as an officer for two years, Lake Travis Crisis Ministries, and the Austin Disaster Relief Network which included the 2011 wildfire relief effort in Spicewood, Texas.
He believes that with the ever-increasing growth of the city, the Council must pay careful attention to responsible development, which will preserve the “small town” atmosphere that we all love about Lakeway. This must be combined with fiscal responsibility by long range planning and budgetary discipline. He joined the Council in May 2013 for his first council term.
