Lakeway Wildfire Committee

Efforts to mitigate the risk of wildfires in our town can succeed only if the community is convinced that there is a real danger to properties and is willing to take proactive measures to address those risks. Neighborhood volunteers are needed to help spread the word.  Hence, the evolving Wildfire Committee is seeking the active participation of residents in the Wildfire Readiness program.  This is an excellent opportunity for you to get involved in efforts to help ensure the safety of your own property and of the town in general.  There are several ways to volunteer and get involved (see Mission Statement for a complete list and description) in these worthy efforts, namely:

  • Serving on the Wildfire Committee;
  • Fuel reduction projects (i.e., Wildfire Readiness Days) volunteers, to help remove dead vegetation (fuel) from public parks and spaces that have been identified as high risk in terms of fuel load;
  • Homeowner Associations or neighborhood efforts to reduce risks in and around specific properties, mainly by helping to coordinate neighborhood committees and fuel reduction efforts;
  • Public Awareness activity coordination (i.e., 4th of July event; annual Wildfire Readiness Days; banner production; and any other awareness raising kinds of activities)
