Steve Jones began his career in municipal government in 1985, and has been the City Manager of Lakeway since April 2005. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and is a member of the Texas City Managers Association.
Steve came to Lakeway from the City of Pflugerville where he served as city manager from 1996 to 2004. While there, he administered the growth and development of the city from a population of fewer than 5,000 to a population of over 20,000.
Steve has served on several boards and committees including serving as the director of an economic development corporation, a member of the Texas Municipal League’s Legislative Committee, and was a member of Austin Energy’s Rate Review Public Involvement Committee. He currently serves as a small-cities representative to the Austin-Travis County Emergency Services Division.
During his career he has managed the planning, financing and construction of many public projects including a library, recreation center, parks, a police station, water and wastewater systems, a city hall, and several major roadways.
He has overseen the development and implementation of municipal comprehensive plans, and guided the growth and development of two unique cities.
